Composite Decks and Railing – Beauty, Durability, Low Maintenance

Many Columbia Deck & Fence clients prefer decks made of composite materials that look like wood but do not have the drawbacks of wood.  Composite deck materials, made by manufacturers such as Trex, Veranda and ChoiceDek, are usually combination of recycled wood and plastic.  These manufacturers tout advantages over traditional wood decks, such as:

* Will not rot or deteriorate due to harsh weather.
* Contains no toxic chemicals or preservatives.
* Low maintenance, never requiring staining, weathering, or sealing.
* Resists heating and fading.
* Easy to install.
* Safe, slip-resistant when wet.
* Doesn’t sliver and splinter, which makes it comfortable for bare feet to walk on.

However, composite decking and rails cost more than wood, sometimes significantly so, and they are also not as maintenance-free as manufacturers suggest.  There are also naturally occurring color variations in most composite decking and they do lighten over time, which some people don’t care for.

At Columbia Deck & Fence, we’ve built and remodeled many composite wood decks and rails over the years.  We’re the folks who actually do the work (and guarantee it!), so we have in-depth, working knowledge that most salespeople don’t.  Call today for a free estimate.
