Wood Decks and Railing – Popular, Long-Lasting, Economical

We at Columbia Deck & Fence build more decks of wood than wood alternatives, simply because wood is a durable and affordable choice for many homeowners.  Unlike decks built of composite materials (which simply need replaced when wear and tear or fading has become unacceptable), wood decks can be refinished every few years to look like new.

However – wood deck and railing materials need to be chosen carefully, since different woods have varying degrees of resistance to decay, resistance to fading, heaviness and elasticity.  Pressure-treated wood (usually Southern yellow pine) has a warranty against decay and termite damage, but many people don’t like the green-tinged lumber or the pesticides it contains.  Some of our clients choose a prettier but still durable wood (such as redwood or mahogany) and save the pressure-treated wood for the frame and supports.

We’d be happy to discuss the pros and cons of wood decks with you; we stand behind our work and our products and will help you make the best choice.  Call Columbia Deck & Fence today – and yes, we do fences too!
